Tasty n Alder Restaurant Review: Siblings Tasty n Alder and Tasty n Sons share a creative approach to food that emphasizes fresh, quality ingredients and robust flavors that stretch the envelope as to what may be eaten during the day. Each presents a combination of small and big plates that arrive in a staggered fashion. Some dishes overlap between the two restaurants, such as the salade Niçoise, potatoes bravas with garlic aïoli, and the chocolate potato donut with crème anglaise. Others are served exclusively at this location: Korean fried chicken with house-made kimchi, bibimbop with bacon and eggs, and several hunks of meat. Tasty n Alder is positioned as a steakhouse (you may even opt for a steak for brunch) and the dinner menu offers a plethora of grilled steak choices along with lamb, pork and local fish such as wild Alaska salmon and Arctic char. Vegetables are ordered à la carte; don't skip them. If you're not a carnivore compose a meal with the lightly dressed radicchio salad with bacon chunks or the Vietnamese-inspired Brussels sprouts tossed in a flavorful fish sauce. There's a full bar that pours a tequila-based Bloody Mary sparked with horseradish, sriracha sauce, house-made pickles and a celery salt rim. The kitchen is occasionally slow, but service is always warm and friendly.
