Tasty n Alder Restaurant Review: Think of Tasty n Alder and Tasty n Sons as siblings rather than twins; they share a simple yet creative approach to food that emphasizes fresh, quality ingredients and robust flavors, trademarks of Portland's best dining experiences. Each serves a combination of small and big plates that arrive in a staggered fashion, and both stretch the envelope about what may be eaten during the day. Some dishes overlap between the two restaurants, such as the salade Niçoise with local, house-canned tuna; potatoes bravas with garlic aïoli; and chocolate potato donut with crème anglaise. But others are served exclusively at this location: Korean fried chicken with house-made kimchi; bibimbop with bacon and eggs; and cinnamon Budapest coffee cake. Positioned as a steakhouse --- you may even order a steak for brunch --- the dinner menu offers a plethora of grilled steak choices, along with lamb, pork and local fish such as wild salmon and Arctic char. Vegetables at brunch and dinner are also stars. Try the radicchio salad with lightly dressed crisp, never bitter, leaves and bacon chunks, or Vietnamese-inspired Brussels sprouts tossed in a flavorful fish sauce. There's a full bar where a favorite is the tequila-based Bloody Mary enlivened by horseradish, sriracha sauce, house-made pickles and a celery salt rim.
