In a handsome space created from a large 19th-century coffeehouse, overlooking the stately oaks along the edge of City Park, Tavern on the Park is an eyeful of polished Siena marble floors and simple brass accents. The missing element is the culinary sparkle one would hope for in such surroundings. The safest route to satisfaction on this menu the breaded veal cutlets and broiled lobster tails. The rest of the landscape is short on peaks and high on valleys.
