Thai Gardens Restaurant Review:

Mexico City is sadly bereft of Asian food, particularly from the Southeastern part of the continent. Thai Gardens in Polanco---one of a chain, with outposts in Madrid, Barcelona, Sao Paolo and Casablanca---is a top Thai restaurant in the city. However, this status is not in itself distinguished: There are only a handful of Thai places in the whole metropolis. The decoration is a bit over the top, with potted palms, statues of the Buddha, ornamental woodwork on the walls, and treacle-like Thai pop piped in. The food is decent, but by no means extraordinary, and by Mexico City standards outstandingly high-priced. Among the best choices are the vermicelli salad with ground chicken and shrimp, khao tang (crispy fried rice in peanut sauce), khong sam rod (grilled shrimp served over sautéed spinach, in a tamarind sauce) and cerdo isaan (spicy pork in basil sauce).
