Thali Regional Cuisine of India Restaurant Review

: Thali brings together the flavors from virtually every region in India and Asia, and features inventive dishes like Manchurian "Gobi," cauliflower sautéed in fiery cilantro garlic sauce, and "Jinga," crisp shrimp in hot cilantro garlic sauce. Main courses draw on influences from neighboring regions and home-style recipes like "My Mother's Andhra Chicken," roasted chicken seasoned with a hand-pounded poppy seed, clove and cardamom sauce, and parda biryani of slow-cooked lamb served with basmati rice in sealed pots with fresh herbs, cardamom, mint and saffron. Consider, too, the sunheri bhindi, juliennes of okra fried crisp and dusted with tangy powdered spices, a popular curry choice. Roses adorning golden bowls and richly decorated Indian fabrics hanging from the wall help to transport patrons to the South Asian peninsula. The Mumbai Bar offers relaxed sofa-style seating for those looking to lounge while they dine.
