Three Angels Diner Restaurant Review

: Waitresses wear vintage aprons and the tables are decoupaged with magazine illustrations from the 1950s, but the menu is modern at Three Angels Diner. The casual arts district-area eatery offers affordable lunch and stays open well through the night (2 a.m.) to cater to late-night munchies. Produce for seasonal sides and entrées are purchased from local farmers, meats are vegetarian-fed, and the “green” diner even composts and recycles its vegetable oil. On the menu are modernized American classics such as the griddle-fried burger with caramelized onions, the “adult grilled cheese” with smoked Gouda, goat cheese and cheddar, and pozole (slow-cooked pork with chilies and hominy, avocado and tortillas). The diner also caters to vegans and vegetarians with its tofu “egg” salad sandwich (made with vegan mayo) and a hearty house-made veggie burger. Desserts are classic diner staples such as lemon icebox pie and banana pudding. Wine selections are minimal, but there is a full bar.
