Thyme in the Ranch Restaurant Review: Life slows a bit in Rancho Santa Fe, and this café is an apropos spot for a casual yet gourmet breakfast or lunch. Locals drift in for fresh-baked pastries and lattes in the morning, opting to sit on the shaded patio or porch, or inside where the ambience feels like a French country farmhouse. Tables are tucked about the room, next to a fireplace or armoire filled with garden and home décor pieces for sale. Lunch calls for tarragon chicken salad, crab-stuffed avocados or quiche. Other notables include homemade soups and focaccia sandwiches like roasted eggplant with sun-dried tomatoes and feta. The place is also known for its tempting treats like white chocolate toffee crunch cookies, chocolate-dipped macaroons and the Monte Carlos --- coconut butter creams with raspberry filling. Beyond coffee, there are teas, hot chocolate and freshly squeezed orange juice and lemonade. The policy of cash and checks only seems to fit with the café's nostalgic charm.
