Now for something entirely different---not Monty Python, but Tiffin, son of Thali. From tiny Thali on Greenwich Avenue has come larger, more accessible Tiffin. These Indian vegetarian restaurants share the same gracious owner, Kumi Kalantri, miniscule prices, lack of a liquor license (at this writing), and the same ability to wow even old India hands. Take a six-pack of Golden Eagle or Kingfisher and hunker down at the black lacquer tables for a voyage of culinary discovery. At lunch, hold the beer and experience the $9 prix fixe, dishes from a different region of India every day. Tiffin’s talented young chefs raise vegetarian cooking to new heights with extraordinary flavors. Guests with open minds, discriminating palates and a passion for Indian cooking will come away amazed at the finesse and verve of Tiffin. There is no weight to loading up on ethereal samosas, dhoklas, undhiyas and bhajis, and your only concern will be when it can be done again.
