 After more than 30 years at the same Post Oak location, Houston’s crème de la crème of contemporary European-style dining moved its landmark to Greenway Plaza, replacing Maxim’s. After dropping $5 million on the extensive renovations, the look is earthy contemporary in shades of cinnamon and pale woods with modern art and lots of natural light. The revitalized setting still attracts the socialites, well-heeled and privileged patrons along with a younger sophisticated set. Lunch verges on affordable and makes for an energetic scene. Start with ribbons and squares of immaculately fresh red sashimi-grade tuna; elegant spicy seafood gazpacho topped with lump crab meat; or Bosc pear salad with addictively sharp Gorgonzola. Go straight to beef country with the tall truffled filet of crisp-seared beef or the braised short ribs. Imaginative venison in a tart blackberry sauce and moist, meaty lamb never disappoint. For dessert, you’ll lap up the warm Texas peach crostada bursting with fresh picked Texas fruit. The global wine list is a winner and worth serious study.
