| Hidden away on an industrial strip in Cathedral City, this Coachella Valley spot attracts diners from all parts of the desert with its authentic East Texas barbecue. "East Texas" means very slow cooking---the brisket takes up to 17 hours---and indirect smoking, with the sauce served on the side. The choice of meats includes brisket, pulled pork, pork ribs, turkey breast, chicken and sausage, and there are three levels of hot sauce: regular, Kick Ass and XXX. To call the place unpretentious would be pretentious. It has changed hands, but the current owner is dedicated to maintaining tradition and is preserving all the well-loved recipes, including the bourbon pecan pie, a sweet potato pie and a fruit cobbler, all based on old East Texan family recipes. Customers split between eating in, taking out and having their barbecue catered. |
