 After several years of headlines, Top FLR still has the buzz. Expanded into adjacent space, adding a second bar and a large dining room, Top FLR has the attention of the in-town youthful, slightly offbeat crowd with modest pockets and good taste. Prices enable visits more than once a week to savor a roast chicken or lovely hanger steak with a ginger jus. The most expensive dish on the menu at $15 is the scallops---a presentation of four giants grilled yet still translucent atop a bed of ginger-and-honey-kissed sweet potatoes. Sides are splendid, with creamy cauliflower coming out hot in a black cast-iron cocotte, yet remaining crisp, slightly al dente. You won’t kick out the mac ‘n’ cheese either. The wine list is well chosen (only a few clunkers) and nicely priced, and offers good choices by the glass. Dessert wines are not kept at proper temperature, but the small circumstances seem to ordain it. After 10 p.m. the large downstairs dining room suffers from incessant beat “music,” rendering table conversation impossible. But by then most folks are hanging at the bar. If dining late, climb upstairs to a quieter environment.
