| Boston may seem an unlikely ice-cream mecca---but somehow, the frozen treat’s very seasonal impracticality has made it a precious local commodity, a symbol of short-lived, much-loved summer. What’s more, ice cream lends itself to flavor experimentation---which in turn attracts the intellectually curious sorts who heavily populate this city. In short, there’s a wealth of wacky scoops to choose from---and Toscanini’s whips up some of the best, from cake batter to brown sugar to gingersnap molasses to cocoa pudding. The fact that they also turn out a neighborly weekend brunch with unusual dishes (Indian scrambled eggs; fried egg sandwiches with spicy mayo) is just icing on the cake. |
