Tost Bistro Bar Restaurant Review: Though French cuisine is touted, Tost’s new owners seem equally intent on exploiting such American staples as shrimp and grits and, of course, the brisket burger, a justly popular holdover from the previous administration. Moules frites do continue the formerly French theme, and we suppose that ratatouille risotto with caramelized shallots transcends national boundaries. Braised pork belly seems like a must-have in San Antonio these days, but we don’t recall it being served with sautéed bacon and leeks elsewhere. Lobster carbonara? The pan-seared tail sits on top, so we’d pass. But appetizers such as lime-mint hummus and truffled fries could hold our attention in the lounge; its music is unavoidable during entertainment hours, so one might as well settle down with a French 75 and go with the flow. A sweet potato pot de crème beckons at dessert. |
