THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Trader Vic's Restaurant Review:

This tiki-themed holdover from the 50s is the home of the first Mai Tai. The rich history, kitschy ambience and traditional menu keep long-standing and faithful patrons coming back. The massive bar glistens with an impressive selection of high-end rums. The South Seas theme brings touches of bamboo and rattan throughout, colored Japanese glass buoys and a Balinese outrigger canoe suspended from the woven mat ceiling, tiki statues, island music and there's even a lava wall with orchids. The slightly elevated Captain's Cabin is the more subdued seating area, with white tablecloths and hefty chairs on roller wheels, while the dining area near the bar and the garden room feel more Polynesian in flavor. The menu is heavy on Eurasian classics with many accompanied by butter sauces and Americanized preparations of Asian dishes that really hail from another era. The standout dishes come from the hulking red pot-bellied Chinese wood-fired oven, like an appetizer of juicy spareribs and an entrée of lightly smoked sea bass. After-dinner drinks are all about exotica, and the Polynesian snowball of coconut-covered ice cream is truly tiki.
