The more casual twin of the downtown Italian Kitchen, this Kitsilano spot’s kitchen turns out adventurous trattoria-style cooking at wallet-friendly prices. The 100-seat eatery excels with hearty pastas and pizzas combining bold spices and flavor combinations such as strozzapretti ("priest stranglers") with smoked chicken and caciocavallo cheese, and thinly sliced veal with a tangy tuna aïoli atop crusty pizza. There's also a fine panzanella salad combining cubes of Chianti vinegar-moistened Tuscan bread scattered with blissfully ripe heirloom tomatoes, grapes, arugula and burrata cheese. If donuts rev your motor, don't miss the fresh zeppole al cioccolato---homemade fritters made Italian-style with a delightfully gooey chocolate interior. To pair with your meal, choose from more than fifty wines from Tuscany, Piedmont, Veneto and Sicily, plus a handful of boutique wines from British Columbia and California. Service is enthusiastic and helpful.
