Trattoria La Strada marks the coming of age of South Bay, a booming area fueled by extravagant new housing developments. By far the most stylish eatery in this part of the county, La Strada boasts a surprisingly good kitchen where Old World--types turn out such classics as osso bucco, veal scallops and Florentine-style T-bone steaks. The long page of daily specials might include halibut sautéed with zucchini and oregano, or penne tossed with chopped scampi---the genuine article!---that have been flamed in vodka and seasoned with garlic, red pepper and a lovely light tomato sauce. Even the cannoli outdo those in most other places.
