At this quaint trattoria, Milano-born Daniel Nobili serves up traditional Northern Italian to the locals of Del Mar and Carmel Valley. The restaurant sits overlooking the lagoon, with the train rumbling by, especially nice on warmer summer nights. Inside, its walls are adorned with paintings of the Italian countryside. While the service is more casual than formal, the staff are attentive and friendly. While a fine antipasto choice is the asparagus spears with prosciutto, tucked under a bed of Parmesan and mushrooms, we're still talking about the soft burrata on smoky, thick speck with fennel and ripe tomatoes. Fresh pasta is the key here, like lobster ravioli with shrimp in a pink brandy sauce or the penne alla bava with ham and asparagus in a Fontina cheese sauce. Another winning house specialty is Nobili's veal with Dijon and goat cheese. Ponte Vecchio melds its old-world charm with affordable, authentic Italian cooking making it a sweet neighborhood find.
