Trattoria Sostanza Restaurant Review:
Trattoria Sostanza, nicknamed Il Troia, has been in Florence for five generations. Originally a butcher shop, the place has white tiles and wooden tables that are still part of the décor, and it’s no surprise that Florentine steak is a specialty. People come from far and wide to eat here. There’s no online presence to make a reservation, and the very friendly owners run the cozy pretense-free restaurant in the same way they always have, serving up the same quality food. The menu is brief. As a starter, try the tortellini in brodo or the artichoke tart when in season. In addition to the aforementioned charcoal-grilled Florentine steak, buttered chicken is a highlight. For dessert you’ll most likely encounter a strawberry meringue. The wine list proposes a few Italian labels but the house wine is recommended and ordered by most.
