Enter through the unmarked, nondescript door next to the Italian eatery Tre Dici, walk up the steps (or take the elevator one floor) and swing open the door. Welcome to Tre Dici Steak, a quasi-secretive Italian steakhouse run by the restaurant of the same name on the ground floor. The chic bordello-red design only adds to the “insider” vibe of the place. The food, however, is the real reason to seek out this Chelsea eatery. Start with a jumbo lump crab cake over baby greens and homemade rémoulade, the steamed jumbo shrimp cocktail, served chilled over ice with homemade cocktail sauce, or the "Inside Out” meatballs made of beef, pork and veal and stuffed with fresh mozzarella, then fried and topped with homemade marinara. The pastas are also grand. Steak almost seems like an afterthought, but the garlic and Parmesan-encrusted New York strip boasts enough multi layers of goodness that you might not want to tell many friends about the place for fear you’ll never get a table.
