| Tre Otto is what every neighborhood needs: a cozy trattoria that serves up reliable, Italian comfort food with a welcoming attitude. Sitting in a long, narrow room, the brick-walled 40-seat Tre Otto is busy and fun. Hanging salumi greet you over the counter, hinting at the restaurant’s roots, a family of Italian food purveyors in New York. The menu features an assortment of small plates and casseroles ranging from meatballs on garlic crostini to thin prosciutto slices served with fig jelly and grissini, and thin-crust pizzas. Main courses are equally enticing, from the potato-crusted salmon with lemon and orange emulsion to lightly fried calamari and zucchini with a spicy tomato sauce. Pastas are handmade and come in an assortment of shapes including linguine alle vongole and trenette with almonds and basil pesto. Desserts are also homemade: the caramel-and-chocolate-sauced semifreddo is a fine finish to any meal, accompanied by biscotti and espresso. In the warmer months, Tre Otto has one of the neighborhood’s rare backyard seating areas. |
