Trench Restaurant Review

: This bathhouse-turned-restaurant just off Wicker Park’s Six Corners summons the ingredients of a Chicago classic, from its handcrafted cocktails and vintage feel, and also the chef, Jared Wentworth. Step down into the sunken, 360-degree bar for pre- or post-meal sips such as the house favorite Tom Collins on Draft, a concoction of gin, bitters, lemon and fizz, or the sparkling Glera Prosecco, only a sliver of the well-edited cocktails, beer and wine on the menu. Make dinner communal with small plates, including the pastrami-spiced pigs head, the hamachi crudo or the chermoula-spiced tofu. Have a bigger appetite? Kentucky-fried quail is a supper not worth sharing, thanks to its Southern-braised green beans, bone marrow cornbread and country gravy. Pan-roasted cod with Manila clams soaks up richness from its chorizo, kale and potato accompaniments. Make the moist, warm butter cake your finale; inside this den of decadence, no one will be judging.
