THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Trillium Restaurant Review:
Though Ryan Leinonen's Scandinavian restaurant sits on a street that's more conducive to bar carousing than culinary artistry, the Ballpark establishment has become a mecca for those searching for a classy atmosphere augmented by the sincerest of welcomes from a professional staff and well-executed cuisine that's inspired and full of unexpected surprises. Leinonen romances his guests with a beet salad, which showcases the raw, pickled and roasted vegetables alongside a splay of fresh herbs and greens and frozen goat cheese. Grilled steelhead trout is festooned with mustard greens, radishes, carrots and turnips and paired with Havarti gnocchi, while the pan-seared scallops benefit from a medley of melon, chickpeas, strawberries, sunflower seeds and crisped ham. He also unleashes a daily smorgasbord of delights, including bourbon barrel-smoked Mackinaw trout crowned with salt-and-sugar-pickled radishes and crème fraîche. For dessert, we always yield to the cheese plate, a trio of cheeses sharing space with toffee almonds, fresh fruit and honey-and-minted figs. The wine list, vastly broad in its depth and reach, is an oenophile's dream, and the bar crew is knowledgeable in the creation of craft cocktails, too.
