| The shwarmas and filling falafels are homemade, fresh and snuggly-wrapped up in giant squares of lavash at this original location of the Middle Eastern-Mediterranean take-out spot. The no-nonsense décor helps to keep the tiny, narrow space light and airy. A slim counter on the wall opposite the kitchen offers only a few seats, affording little room to maneuver at busier times for those ordering at the counter. Chicken shwarma appears on Tuesdays and Fridays and is not to be missed. Lamb is available all week. The meat cooks slowly on a vertical rotisserie with drippings falling onto tomato wedges and thinly sliced onions warmed below. All this, plus tahini, parsley and hot sauce, are swaddled in lavash and grilled for a few moments before being wrapped to go. Vegetarians might enjoy the falafel, fried to order and paired with any number of garnishes. Platters of baba ghanouj and hummus make for tasty side dishes. We also suggest the fresh carrot juice and the minty yogurt drink. |
