 Can meatloaf and sushi coexist on the same menu without driving diners, not to mention the kitchen, crazy? At Trumbull Kitchen, a uniquely exciting collaboration between Max Restaurant Group and chef and co-owner Christopher Torla, the answer is yes. Downtown's most eclectic dining experience derives from a menu that proffers its myriad eccentricities with unbridled enthusiasm---which the hipsters literally, and rightly, eat up. Sharing is the way to go here. Downstairs, long communal tables rock with groups passing small plates that range from quirky rolls to wings and black-bean empanadas; they wash it all down with mojitos, saké martinis or the signature TK Valentini---a blend of Stoli Raz, Chambord and pomegranate, cranberry and pineapple juices. Meanwhile, couples head to the upstairs loft to take a more intimate global tour de cuisine via fondue pots---we like the bright flavors of sun-dried tomato and roasted red pepper with warm ciabatta---or stone-baked pizzas like the version combining spicy spinach, feta, roasted onions and marinated grape tomatoes. This is also the place for late afternoon and late-night happy hours with bargain-priced tapas and drinks.
