Tuome Restaurant Review:

Step into the understated yet comfortable dining room of this buzzed-about restaurant, an outlier in a neighborhood that caters to college kids. Tuome brings upscale, thoughtful cuisine to the far eastern part of the East Village. Deviled eggs are inevitably ordered by every table, but for good reason as they are deep-fried and topped with chili relish. Octopus, char-broiled with pork and brown butter, is an umami bomb. Striped bass is paired with golden quinoa and cauliflower in an aromatic coconut broth. Also famous is the large-format pork entrée (appropriately titled "Pig Out"): roasted Berkshire pork is served with various condiments and a side of addictive peanut noodles. The wine list is short and sweet, a thoughtful "best of the best" mix: a Provencal rosé, an Argentine Malbec, a Loire Valley Chenin Blanc. The “Fire in the Sky” cocktail is a spicy-sweet blend of saké, Thai chili and yuzu. The sole dessert is little pillowy bites of fried Chinese dough in a beignet-style with goat's milk caramel.
