| Located in an old livery complex, Tutti’s is, in fact, two blocks off of Main Street in downtown Ventura. When the weather is good, the primo seats are outside under the vine-covered pergola. Inside it’s one long dining area with lots of small tables. The Mediterranean menu has some classic Italian dishes like mushroom pizza that’s cooked in a wood-burning oven and finished with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar, as well as cioppino and seafood risotto. At lunch, the chopped Cobb salad or the flank steak salad will work as an entrée. There are also open-face sandwiches called tartines, which are topped with grilled eggplant or tuna niçoise. At dinner, small plates called meze are numerous and fun for grazing with friends. Check out the goat cheese crostini, the scallops with fennel, and the roasted quail stuffed with black figs. Bigger plates are also available, like the braised lamb shank over haystack potatoes, and a spit-roasted Cornish game hen stuffed with apricots, currants and herbs. Service can be helpful or harried, depending on the night and the person. The wine list takes advantage of local vintners’ products. |
