Twisted Soul Cookhouse & Pours Restaurant Review:

About the restaurant: Moving from a Decatur location that was severely short on parking, Deborah VanTrece reopened her restaurant in Atlanta's West Midtown. The small, contemporary space offers several different seating styles, all focused around a central bar.

Likes: The fried chicken and the cobbler.
Dislikes: Trying to find it.

Food & Drinks: This place is fried chicken central, for which one of the sous chefs takes charge and produces a juicy, crisp-skinned and most delectable version. Southern sides --- tasty mashed potatoes and green beans --- accompany the portion, which is buttermilk soaked and fried in a cast-iron skillet. For brunch, we indulge in correctly poached (meaning tender) eggs from a local farm on grits and chicken sausage. Showing deep yellow yolks, the eggs have standout flavor. Coffee from Lawrenceville's CoffeeM roasters is another high mark. It’s hard to choose among the desserts, but Mamma Helen's cookie, baked in a specially designed square cast-iron individual pan, is a must. There's also Ivy's Heavenly Peach Cobbler Parfait, a reinterpretation of a classic. The wine list could --- and should --- be a lot more exciting, even if still short, but this seems to be a cocktail-devoted spot, and the local brews are well selected.
