With its focus on the cuisine and culture of Northern Spain, this small, airy restaurant evokes the region's laid-back lifestyle. Txori, which means "bird" in Basque, serves pinxtos, or Basque-style tapas. You won't go wrong with pulpo da feira, a tender chunk of octopus sitting on a potato round and gleaming with paprika-speckled olive oil. Or there's the very rich braised oxtail swimming in a gravy eager for every swipe of bread. For something more substantial, savor the chorizo bocadillo, slices of Spanish sausage sandwiched between a layer of roasted garlic purée and two halves of a Columbia City Bakery roll. If you're the communal type, order some raciones, larger (but still only a few bites worth) plates to share. The veal and pork meatballs drenched in sherry sauce are a must. Quench your thirst with a Spanish wine from the small selection, a house cocktail (the Pizzaro is a concoction of Pisco, orange and carrot juices) or sample a bebida vasca such as the kalimotxo, a Basque sangría.
