Typhoon's Pan Am Room is perched upstairs from its sister establishment, the Pan-Asian restaurant Typhoon. The aviation-inspired name is a nod not only to its location in the Santa Monica airport, but also to the Pan-American cuisine that is offered. The short menu draws from traditional dishes from countries like Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Guatemala, among others. A selection of multinational ceviches is available, as well as tacos, empanadas and heartier fare such as New York steak with chimichurri sauce, halibut with walnut-cilantro pesto, and Chilean shepherd's pie made with ground beef, chicken and baked corn. A few daily specials are listed on a chalkboard slate up on the wall. A wide selection of tequilas is offered, along with wine and South American cocktails, and for dessert, consider Argentine crêpes or Guatemalan tres leches cake. Arrive at sunset and take advantage of the killer views and envy arriving Gulfstreams on the tarmac.
