Umami Burger Restaurant Review:

Gourmet burger chain Umami Burger made its Midwest debut with this Chicago location. The name comes from the elusive "fifth taste" that is neither sweet, sour, salty nor bitter, but sultry and savory --- a Japanese notion. The kitchen turns out more than a dozen different takes on beef burgers, plus variations with chicken, ahi tuna and the meat-like (but vegan) Impossible Burger. (The buns are stamped with "U" for Umami Burger.) The namesake creation is made with house ketchup, roasted tomato, shiitake mushrooms, caramelized onions and a Parmesan crisp. Rounding out the menu are starters, salads and sides of tempura onion rings and fries. This Wicker Park branch offers cocktails in addition to craft beers and wines.
