Umi Sushi Restaurant Review

: When it comes to this little restaurant on East 31st Street, you shouldn't just judge a book by its cover --- or, rather, a restaurant by its façade. Look past the garish sign outside, which seems to take up nearly the entire storefront, and walk through the customary white and blue Japanese-style curtain at the entryway. There you will be greeted by merry, energetic servers who will be attentive from appetizer through dessert. Starters like the salmon delight, a broiled salmon wrapped in snow crab and flavored with olive sauce, and the ika maru yaki, a Japanese-style broiled squid, make for solid precursors. Next move on to sushi or the entrées. Fresh scallop and broiled eel are some of the many sushi combination possibilities. There are also many classics, from California to Philadelphia rolls. Those opting out of sushi may consider a number of well-prepared teriyakis and katsus, or panko-breaded meats. But do save room for dessert: the green tea mochi is a sweet way to end the meal.
