| Despite the name and the location, The Upper Crust on Beacon Hill is proof that good pizza knows no class boundaries. A glimpse into the little parlor suggests as much. The ceiling is constructed of corrugated tin above a communal table; cooks toss and prep pizza dough just beyond. Granted, the pies are more gourmet than lowbrow. Atop a thin, gnarled, slightly charred crust, toppings are applied with judicious care. Besides a signature white clam pizza (three cheeses---mozzarella, Asiago and ricotta---keep one another from overpowering the shellfish), the pesto-splashed pizzas and the Charles Street, with sun-dried tomatoes and portobellos, are our default options. |
