Urban Bar-B-Cue Company Restaurant Review: Keeping to its high-energy smokiness, the kitchen at this Virginia location of the area’s successful barbecue destination turns out its food in split-second timing. The cooking really draws in large crowds, attracted perhaps by the aromas, but mostly because the restaurant group’s reputation precedes it, with its attention to using quality meats and concocting the best rubs and sauces. Start with such snappy bites as the smothered fries or “Urban Wings” before you launch into the main deal: pulled pork, beef brisket, St. Louis-style ribs, and barbecue chicken, plus sides of coleslaw, potato salad, collards and mac ‘n’ cheese. Burgers, too, are on the menu, and a not-to-miss version is the “Blazin’ Saddle Style” with melted cheddar and Jack cheese and chili toppings. Even if you think you cannot manage one more bite of anything, don’t stop: order a serving of apple caramel crisp with a scoop of ice cream.
