Urban Solace Restaurant Review: Urban Solace in North Park is known for its lively bar scene, bluegrass brunch and creative fare from chef Matt Gordon. Go straight for the Sonoma goat cheese and butternut squash dip with cornmeal crackers or the warm cheese biscuits lavished in orange-honey butter. We like the braised beef cheeks with smoked tomato jam, nestled artfully on brown butter mash. Cocoa-crusted pork belly mingles with citrus beet slaw and sweet potato coins, while Not Your Momma's Meatloaf means ground lamb, pork, figs, almonds and feta with confit potatoes. Keeping with the comfort theme, duckaroni (mac ‘n’ cheese with duck confit) and corn puddings are popular sides. Blackberry bread pudding is a befitting sweet ending. Off-the-beaten-path wines create an interesting list. During the lively bluegrass brunch, try the Kitchen Sink Biscuits 'n' Gravy with sausage, brown sugar slab bacon, and two fried eggs on top. Add a house-made spicy Bloody Mary and you’ve got the makings for an afternoon of good eats and fine music.
