This undisputed king of Melrose cafés in the shadows of the Pacific Design Center packs ’em in all day, every day. The selection of organic, sustainable and fair trade coffees from all over the world is unbeatable, and there’s every type of tea, from oolong and fruit to green. The mostly healthy food is surprisingly good --- even a sprout sandwich that is layered with hummus, red onions, avocado and Swiss cheese. We also like the grilled cilantro chicken breast sandwich with pesto, the Greek salad, and the nori-plum rice wrap. The cakes and pastries have their own following, and the chef makes the tiramisu with the café’s own espresso, while another version is flavored with green tea. Breakfasts are wide ranging, from omelets to burritos to a sticky bun. The people-watching is divine, especially on the spacious patio. Other locations.
