Uva 69 Restaurant Review: A neighborhood-oriented hangout, this café-lounge (with full bar) features inventive, artisan ingredient-driven sandwiches; a lively casual-chic ambience; and, often, karaoke and similar live entertainment. Strictly al fresco when it opened, the place, since opening an indoor room, has tried to market itself as a full gourmet dining spot, with entrées like truffled penne pasta, pork medallions, etc. But we far prefer the more informal treats---breakfast's fresh pastries or lunch's sandwiches (also on just-baked breads). Try the Uva's Minuta sandwich, delicately beer-battered mahi mahi with caramelized onions, avocado, tomato and cilantro aïoli on fresh focaccia. Stop by for a glass of wine, a snack, and a slice of up-and-coming Upper East Side neighborhood life as well. |
