THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Uzbekestan Restaurant Review:
Don't be put off by the kitschy mauve walls, carpets and minaret-shaped booths. This is one of the only places in the city to find the cuisine of the former Soviet republic. Dishes like slow-roasted pork loin with horseradish and chicken Kiev are very good, but opt for the Uzbek offerings like plov---rice pilaf with chunks of greasy lamb---and Uzbek beef roll---juicy ground beef with herbs and spices, breaded and baked. We’d also recommend a combination of lamb, liver and chicken kebabs. Uzbekistan serves a variety of heady vodka concoctions. Friday through Sunday, live entertainment comes courtesy of a talented one-man band, and the place is packed with Russian émigrés.
