Varasano's Pizzeria Restaurant Review: Bronx-born, Jeff Varasano moved to Atlanta in 1998 and soon became hungry for pizza as he knew it. So he experimented, traveled, experimented some more and opened Varasano’s Pizzeria. While the menu has salads and pastas, the reason to come here is pizza. Super-thin sourdough crust makes folding the slice to eat it extra easy and adds markedly to the experience. Varasano recommends not overloading the crust with too many toppings, and we heartily concur. Quality ingredients such as mozzarella di bufala and aged balsamic figure prominently in the pies, which are large enough for two. Our favorite is the salumi, with sliced cured meats. Desserts range through the Italian classics and include a pizza with honey, dates, Fontina and walnuts. The wine list has some very pizza-appropriate choices by the glass, and the Charles & Charles rosé would complement a number of the pies. Beers range from craft brews to good commercial quaffs, plus a few for the masses. Also located at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Concourse A. Note: At age 14, Varasano set a record (24.67 seconds) for solving the mind-bending puzzle known as the Rubik’s Cube.
