Plain or fancy Greek restaurants dot DC’s culinary landscape, but this Kentlands place gets it right without all the frills. Simple fare that’s well prepared comes straight from the kitchen where souvlaki, falafel, gyro and spanakopita reign. For starters, the roasted feta with red peppers is a real head-turner, especially as served with a side of hot, fresh pita bread. Even the Greek salads, often dreary and drenched with so-so vinaigrettes, come with super-fresh ingredients and your choice of grilled meats as toppings. Acknowledging that not every patron will warm up to Greek eats, management does sprinkle some very American paninis on the menu, and even chicken tenders for the kiddies. But your best bet is the Greek food, and don’t skip dessert. The creamy galaktoboureko---custard encased in phyllo---is the best in town. Served warm and enhanced by the scent of rosewater, it is totally seductive.
