A venture of Hollywood producer Gale Anne Hurd, this handsome second-story establishment in Old Pasadena features an intimate, contemporary dining room with a prominent fireplace, separated from a lively bar by a floor-to-ceiling glass-ensconced wine cellar. The extensive wine list features 400-plus labels from around the globe, including a rotating selection of more than 60 by the glass and numerous fun, interesting flights. The small plate concept was phased out in favor of a more traditional menu. Among starters are yellowtail crudo with grapefruit and pickled red onions, and seared foie gras, while entrées include a crispy-skin duck confit with an orange-brown butter reduction, rib-eye with green peppercorn sauce, and a very well executed yet mysteriously tiny portion of risotto with asparagus. On a recent visit, some dishes from the kitchen were over-salted, but the food is now worthy of a fine wine list. And there is still a nice selection of cheeses to accompany those wines.
