Lunchtime at downtown's Fountain Square brings brown-baggers to the outdoor tables within view of this modern steel-and-glass restaurant, where the atmosphere inside is considerably more upscale. This is a sleek dining spot for power-suited professionals, whose soup-and-salad combo choices are just as distinguished. The potato leek soup is served with an artistic flair of white-truffle oil swirls. And warm Boucheron goat cheese makes the mixed-green salad worth ordering. It's a bustling place where you can overhear deals being made at the next table. The see-and-be-seen feel goes all the way to the kitchen, where you can watch the wood-fired pizzas coming out of the oven. By night, Via Vite has more of a lounge-like vibe, a popular happy hour and a good signature drink, the Sgrouppino, made with grapefruit vodka, Prosecco and ruby-red gelato. There's no question as to which dinner entrée to target: the overnight-braised lamb shank with lamb jus atop creamy polenta. We also recommend the penne Bolognese. Like everything else here, it's a little bit hipper than you'd expect. For dessert, save room for gelato or vanilla bean risotto pudding with local honey and pistachios.
