Via Vite Restaurant Review: Lunchtime at downtown's Fountain Square brings brown-baggers to the outdoor tables within view of this modern steel and glass restaurant. Not surprisingly, Via Vite’s atmosphere is considerably more upscale. This is a sleek spot for power-suited professionals to enjoy soup and salad combos that are every bit as distinguished as the setting would suggest. It's the sister restaurant of Nicola's Ristorante a few blocks away, and it caters more to the business crowd. Potato-leek soup gets artistic flair with white truffle oil swirls, while warm Boucheron goat cheese enhances the mixed green salad. The see-and-be-seen vibe extends to the kitchen, where you can watch the wood-fired pizzas emerging from the oven. By night, Via Vite has more of a lounge-like vibe, a popular happy hour, rooftop bar and a good signature drink, the Sgroppino, made with grapefruit vodka, Prosecco and ruby red gelato. Among dinner entrées, we recommend the overnight-braised lamb shank with lamb jus atop creamy polenta, as well as the five-layer lasagna Bolognese. For dessert, consider the “Caramel Complexity,” caramel panna cotta between two layers of caramelized puff pastry and carmello gelato, finished with house-made caramel-bourbon sauce.
