THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Vignola Restaurant Review:
The venerable St. James Hotel is an apt backdrop for the superb Provencal cuisine prepared by Chef Fabrice Poigin and his wife, Marilyn, perhaps the best food in the Gaslamp Quarter. Who can resist a dining room with a bar built for Joan Crawfords mansion---especially one purported to have marks imprinted by the actress when she danced on its surface in stiletto heels? Much of the seafood, cheese and produce on the frequently shifting menu is flown in from the south of France. The fresh foie gras is a bit pricey but worth it. We always enjoy the salad dressed with tapenade and the tiny ravioli filled with duck confit, and, when available, we never fail to order a big scoop of lavender-scented ice cream. Book the private room and you get spectacular rooftop views along with the same great food.
