The Village Restaurant Review:
Prolific Valley restaurateur Frank Leon (La Loggia) rebranded Bokado into this gastropub that retains some qualities of the space's former Spanish tapas bar. A multi-cultural menu provides small plates like pan-roasted black mussels, truffled mac ‘n’ cheese, and The Village burger with a grass-fed patty with bacon, melted Gruyère and fried egg. A wide selection of vegetarian or vegan options include lightly breaded crispy cauliflower with salsa brava, wood-oven-roasted peppers with onion marmalade, and sautéed Brussels sprouts glazed in sweet cider. The restaurant exhibits some Italian stripes with a pizza/mozzarella bar, and wood-fired pizzas include one with mushrooms, Fontina, Taleggio and thyme, and another with figs, walnuts and jamón Ibérico. Desserts lean Spanish, such as flan and churros with a chocolate dipping sauce. The wine list jumps from Napa Valley to Rioja to Tuscany, and offers a nice choice of glasses and half-bottles. The industrial-chic design includes a bar seductively backlit in red and a wide terrace.
