This Upper West Side eatery has a loyal clientele, who come to enjoy the fireplace, low ceilings, bare-wood floors, oil cloth-covered tables and country antiques, and then stay for the hearty yet delicate comfort food. The American fare includes a panko chicken Parm sandwich on crusty hero bread served with a spicy mix salad; linguine with clams; and crispy Long Island duckling with a mushroom, wild rice and barley mélange. If whipped potatoes don't come with your meal, make sure to order them. Save room for one of the crumbly fruit cobblers or the deep-dish apple pie for dessert. At lunch, try the large deli-style sandwiches of in-house-prepared pastrami, honey-baked ham, turkey or corned beef or the bargain-priced prix-fixe menu.
