| This Upper West Side eatery has a loyal clientele, who come to enjoy the fireplace, low ceilings, bare-wood floors, oil cloth-covered tables and country antiques, and then stay for the hearty yet delicate comfort food. The American fare includes steamed Prince Edward Island mussels in garlic white wine or plum tomato sauce, V & E's stuffed meatloaf with prosciutto, mozzarella, carrots, spinach and garlic mashed potatoes, and oven-roasted filet of Atlantic salmon with broccoli and mushroom-parsley sauce. If whipped potatoes don't come with your dish, make sure to order them on the side. Be sure to save room for one of the crumbly fruit cobblers or the deep-dish apple pie for dessert. At lunch, try the large deli-style sandwiches of in-house-prepared pastrami, honey-baked ham, turkey or corned beef or the bargain-priced prix-fixe menu. |
