THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Viognier Restaurant Review:
Dressed-up Viognier's versatile, wide-ranging menu features the occasional Southern sensibility. Presentation-wise, everything from salads to main courses is artfully displayed. A plentiful pork belly dish is a high point of unctuous and abundant meat and fat; scallops are flavorful and carefully prepared with a single-side-sear creating mid-rare consistency. Some dishes lack the level of flavor hinted at in the presentation and promised by the location's history, and desserts seem to have suffered over time. A well-rounded wine list offers good variety and the extensive spirits list is even more impressive, while the full bar touts a standout cocktail menu. The second-floor location over upscale grocery store Draeger's Marketplace delivers an ambience more in line with a medium-premium hotel restaurant than one of the Peninsula's better French destinations.
