Chef Jared Simons' passion at this fine dining establishment cum neighborhood restaurant is a farm-to-table style of cooking reminiscent of the heyday of California cuisine. The food is a refreshing change from the over-salting, over-spicing and hidden fat in so many restaurants. The overall experience of dining on dishes like house-cured salmon tart or baked macaroni with Gruyère cheese and Serrano ham is revitalizing. Subtly sophisticated small plates that allow maximum flexibility and comfort foods dominate the menu. Never pretentious, an eclectic wine list is supplemented by a selection of handcrafted beers and freshly baked cookies and milk are offered for dessert. It’s loud, so instead of speaking over their neighbors, regulars often engage them in conversation. From the servers to every last member of the kitchen crew, it is clear that everyone on the Violet team shares in the passion. The result is an aura of vitality humming through the restaurant, wrapping guests up in the magic created here on a daily basis. Thrifty diners will enjoy Sunday three-course tasting menus for $25, and the seven $7 dishes served Tuesday through Thursday before 7 p.m. |
