THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Warren's Blackboard Restaurant Review:

Warren's Blackboard is an apt name for this temporary food and beverage workshop at The Beverly Garland hotel right off the 101 freeway. Warren is chef Warren Schwartz (Westside Tavern, Whist, Saddle Peak Lodge) who is returning to Los Angeles after a corporate stint in Dallas. Blackboard applies, not only because one wall of this pleasant, fabric-booth-lined space is covered with one, but because the entire restaurant is slated to be "erased" in spring of 2014 as the hotel, dining room and outdoor patio will be renovated. Until then, Schwartz is testing out old and new comfort food items for The Front Yard, his hotel restaurant that will replace this pop-up. Start with a light popover filled with mushrooms, bacon and asparagus, spicy ceviche graced with a sweet potato or albacore poke enhanced with avocado and macadamia nuts. His rare ahi dish, which honors former boss Joachim Splichal, gets added color from tomato and extra flavor from a tangy ponzu, while his juicy pork chop pairs well with polenta. Wash it all down with a signature cocktail, or an offering from the short California wine list. End with the flaky apple crostata or satisfying chocolate pot de crème.
