THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED WasaB Restaurant Review:

For a small metropolitan area, Greater Hartford has a disproportionate number of Japanese restaurants. In this crowded field, WasaB stands out for its remarkably diverse and extensive menu and for the consistent quality diners enjoy whether their Asian cravings lean toward the raw or the cooked. A large section of the menu is also devoted to vegetarian selections. Sushi and sashimi preparations are beautifully presented and fresh, and we particularly like some of the innovative sushi rolls, such as the Rock 'n' Roll, a gargantuan, spicy ensemble that incorporates yellow fin, white tuna, salmon, scallion and tempura flake. The already impressive line-up is augmented with daily blackboard sushi specials. Those who find raw fish intimidating can order the beginner dinner and ease into this cuisine by sampling sushi made from fully cooked components. Then again, there are plenty of tempting sushi alternatives, such as tempura and teriyaki dishes, noodles and hibachi dinners. The seafood tempura is a rich, crispy feast that we order on special occasions. Service is friendly, but it can be a bit slow on busy evenings. Patience is greatly aided by a cup of hot saké and the certainty that a terrific meal is on the way.
