| Downtown in the French Quarter, Marigny or Bywater, utter the word “sushi“ and the first place that comes to mind is “Wasabi.” This hip, compact restaurant does sushi the way it is meant to be done. You’re in Louisiana, so be sure to try the crawfish roll and the house special French Quarter roll. Several non-sushi entrées also shine. Cast-iron pots hold glorious noodle soups; along with thin wheat noodles and a light-colored broth, nabeyaki udon contains scallops, grouper, carrots, oyster mushrooms, tempura shrimp and an over-easy egg. Behind the rambunctious bar area where neighborhood regulars tip back as much Budweiser as saké, a well-lighted space showcases sushi chefs hard at work. Wine selections are limited. Prepare your taste buds for an ice cream dessert, with flavors like plum, green tea, cappuccino, ginger and red bean. Service is professional. |
