Wasabi Restaurant Review: This hip, compact restaurant does sushi the way it is meant to be done. Behind the rambunctious bar area where neighborhood regulars tip back as much Budweiser as saké, a well-lighted space showcases sushi chefs hard at work. You’re in Louisiana, so be sure to try the crawfish roll and the house special French Quarter roll. Several non-sushi entrées also shine. Cast-iron pots hold noodle soups, while nabeyaki udon contains scallops, grouper, carrots, oyster mushrooms, tempura shrimp and an over-easy egg. Prepare your taste buds for an ice cream dessert, with flavors like plum, green tea, cappuccino, ginger and red bean, but the tempura cheesecake is a singular wonder. Wine selections are limited. Service is professional.
