| The location---an island in a strip-mall parking lot---doesn't do much, but don't let the address make the wrong impression. Step inside this cozy, clubby restaurant, ask for one of the snug booths and enjoy chef Matt Quist's engaging around-the-world menu, which appeals to drop-ins looking for a snack and diners in search of a full-fledged meal. Start with sizzling little lamb chops with a bright chimichurri sauce or tempura-battered calamari served with a robust wasabi aïoli. Then move on to grilled eight- or 10-ounce New York strips finished with a shallot-bourbon glaze, pan-seared pheasant with a cool fennel salad or barely seared, sushi-grade tuna paired with an Asian-accented slaw. The sandwich roster during lunch includes a topnotch BLT, a curried egg salad dressed with a swipe of mango chutney, and tender pulled pork piled high on a bun and crowned with pickled onions. The best seats are at the bar, where diners can watch the kitchen at work. |
