THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Welcome Diner Restaurant Review: This diner, complete with exactly nine stools, is the real deal. Built in the early 1930s and refurbished to its current state of splendor, it's now replete with polished stainless steel, twirling red stools and walls painted a brilliant sky blue. Chef-owner Pete Deyo keeps the menu real too by offering classic diner food with upscale twists and top-quality, local and organic ingredients, whenever possible. That means the sausage comes from Schreiner's, the tomatoes from One Windmill and Victory Farms, the bread from two local bakeries and the maple syrup from a small farm in Vermont. The burgers and Coney Island hot dogs are fun, but the real standouts are the homemade soups, daily specials, root beer float and Pete's amazing fritters, which are so good, you'll consider a second order. It's busy and tight, so plan on waiting for a table.
